With the warm spring sunshine, the cherry blossoms along the approach from the Goryu No. 2 Parking Lot to Escal Plaza have begun to flower, with about 10 to 30% of the flowers in bloom. This morning, soft light filtered through thin clouds in an otherwise pale sky. I enjoyed carving smooth first tracks on the Panorama Course (pictured), where the groomed granular surface had begun to loosen slightly.

On the east-facing, groomed Grand Prix Course (pictured), the soft surface layer was thicker than on the Panorama Course, and my edges dug in deeply with every turn. The groomed Dynamic Course was slushy, and had a small patch of exposed ground at the very top, but otherwise there were no spots of thin snow coverage, allowing for worry-free skiing.

As for the skiable slope heading down to the base, there was ample snow in terms of both depth and width up to the middle of the Toomi Slope, but from there down toward the Goryu Telecabin base station (pictured), the course narrowed significantly. That said, the snow had been well gathered, with no exposed ground or brush in sight, making for a smooth and comfortable descent.

I met a group of four from Ishikawa Prefecture, Nagano City, Omachi City, and Hakuba Village (pictured) who told me, “We always check Snownavi! With the firmer layer of snow beneath the softened granular surface, today’s conditions are the easiest to ski over the past few days. Once the groomed runs start getting roughed up, we’re heading for the moguls!” By the way, a trash pickup event called the “Slope Clean Act.” will be held on 4/26 (Sat.) at both Goryu’s Toomi Slope and 47’s Base Area. Participants will receive an original GREEN HAKUBA T-shirt as a gift.
