Isn’t it kind of perfect that the final report of the season features unusual, end-of-season snowfall? Thinking back, snow was also falling on the very first day of the season—11/30 (Sat.)—carried in by strong winds. This morning, the groomed Grand Prix Course (pictured) featured a slightly soft surface layer of spring corn snow that was topped with about 1 cm of moist new snow.

As time went on, the northwesterly winds picked up even more, and by around 9:15 a.m., all lifts were operating at reduced speed. On the Panorama Course (pictured), the groomed spring corn snow had a soft surface layer that was thicker than that on Grand Prix, but my skis still slid fairly well, making for smooth and enjoyable turns. Seeing the slope regain its whiteness really lifted my spirits.

The area along Line-E (pictured) offered similarly smooth and enjoyable conditions as the Panorama Course. On the banked slalom section remaining on the western side (pictured, background left), some skiers were carving hard into the deep berms as they rode through. By the way, the final Kids’ Ski Day of the season will be held on 5/5 (Mon., holiday)!

I ran into a local mother from Hakuba Village (pictured, second from right), who commented, “I always read your reports! Please take a photo of me with my friend from Tokyo and my son (pictured, far left).” said a local mother from Hakuba Village (second from the right). The son added, “I’m a member of the Hakuba Village Ski Club. The fresh snow on the groomed runs is sticky today, so the moguls are actually faster and more fun to ski.” Anyway, thank you very much for following the Goryu & 47 slope reports this season. See you again next winter!
