As planned, the Diving Course at Takamine Mountain Park held its pre-opening on 11/22 (Sat.). Before the No. 2 Quad (463m) began operating, a demo run was performed by three riders—SAJ National Demonstrator Yoshimi Ota (pictured, left), Shintaro Higo from the AZ Pro Snowboarding School (pictured, center), and Jun’e Harada (pictured, right).

About two-thirds of the Diving Course was groomed, creating a 500m-long, steep, training-friendly run with a maximum pitch of 25 degrees and an average of 22 degrees. At this time of year, it’s rare to find an open slope this steep and wide so close to the Tokyo metropolitan area. On opening day the snow was nice and firm, allowing skis and boards to glide smoothly with solid edge hold—excellent early-season conditions.

This season, the restaurant has launched a new menu with “Takamine Western Dishes” inspired by classic Japanese-style Western cuisine, featuring four items including the “Loco Moco Plate” topped with a large fried shrimp and hamburger patty (pictured, ¥1,600) and the “Toro-toro Tamago Omu-rice” with ketchup rice and creamy eggs (¥1,600). The long-time favorite “Shinshu Miso Ramen” (¥1,400) has also been updated with a blend of Anyoji miso and improved noodles.

The shop next to the Information Desk (pictured) offers outerwear, helmets, goggles, caps, and gloves, along with kids’ snow-play toys and snow boots. There’s also a convenient “3-Item Accessory Set” of easy-to-forget essentials—cap, goggles, and gloves—for ¥4,400. As they were heading home, a group of four visitors from Aichi Prefecture told me, “We originally planned to go to a ski resort in Gifu, but came to Takamine for the first time. It’s incredibly smooth skiing here!”
