This morning, I had a conversation with a man from Matsumoto City (pictured, right) who told me, “I always check your reports,” adding that he took paid leave over Christmas to come skiing with his wife. Another man from Tokyo (pictured, left) said, “It was snowing during the morning yesterday, but rain started to mix in around 11 a.m. I was worried about the slope conditions, but the surface is firm and very easy to ski.” Since the two discovered they had a mutual acquaintance, I took a photo of them together.

The main groomed slope, the Diving Course (pictured), was in excellent condition, with a well-compacted base rich in machine-made snow and a slightly softened, moist surface that provided strong edge grip. Takamine is truly a carving paradise. There were a few thin snow spots on the skier’s right side toward the bottom, but these were clearly marked with poles and had no impact on skiing.

On the Panorama Course, about half the slope was set up with gates for pole training, and it too also offered good edge hold and smooth skiing. Following the opening of the Diving Course on 11/22 (Sat.), the Beginner Course opened on 12/8 (Mon.), and the Panorama Course (pictured) opened later on 12/20 (Sat.). The popular break spot CANADY (pictured, background), also began operation on 12/20 (Sat.).

A snowboarder from Tokyo (pictured) recognized me and said, “Hey, aren’t you with Snownavi? I always check your reports. There were a few slightly thin spots on the Panorama Course, but it was still easy to ride.” Early in the morning it felt neither particularly cold nor warm, but around 9:30 a.m. the air suddenly turned much colder, and just as I finished my coverage around 10 a.m., a few drops of rain began to fall.
