Myoko Suginohara REPORT

2026.01.04 90 cm / Sunny

Despite a slow, low-snow start to the season nationwide, Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort opened as scheduled on 12/13 (Sat.) and was the first ski area in the Myoko area to reach “fully open” (80% or more terrain open) status on 12/19 (Sat.). Stepping off the first gondola of the morning on 1/4 (Sun.), the unmistakably pleasant feel of dry powder underfoot was immediately obvious.

I cruised smoothly along the Park Connection run, where the well-set packed powder made for an enjoyable glide, and the view opened up as I emerged onto the Panorama Slope. Running parallel to Panorama, Dynamic Courses A and B (pictured) offered the same snow quality, with well-packed, easy-to-ski powder. On this 2 km-long intermediate run (maximum 21°, average 14°), it was easy to let the skis run and build up speed.

I met a family visiting from Gunma, who told me, “We came to ski with our nephew. It’s such nice weather today,” and the nephew (pictured) added with a smile, “Snowboarding is hard, but fun. I want to get better and go faster!” On the lower part of the resort, the Shirakaba Course was ungroomed below the junction with the Bunanoki Course due to limited snow cover, with about 5 cm of fresh snow sitting on top of a bumpy base.

By around 30 minutes before its 9:30 a.m. start, a line had already formed for the Mitahara No. 3 High-Speed Lift. Stepping out at the top of the ski area, light flakes of snow were falling. On the Shakunage Course (pictured), the well-set packed powder combined with excellent snow quality made it fun to ski while enjoying the natural rolls and undulations of the terrain.
