The dry snow that began falling last night continued to come down hard. When a solid dump is expected, people flock to Hakunori even on weekdays now, with visitors arriving while it’s still dark. This morning as well, powder-seekers parked in the lot beside the Hakunori Family Course and steadily made their way on foot toward the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair loading area.

Because course checks took longer than usual, the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair started running about 15 minutes late. On the upper half of the Highway Course (pictured), the groomed central lane had 5 to 10 cm of light new snow on top, while the ungroomed sections, marked with uneven tracks, held around 20 cm. Moderately firm powder grooming continued on the lower half of course, where 10 to 15 cm of light new snow had accumulated.

When the No. 10 Pair finally began operating, cheers broke out from the long line at the loading area. The Sky View Slope (pictured) was loaded with 35 to 40 cm of light new snow. Although the bumpy base underneath was firm, once up to speed there was plenty of float, allowing for smooth, enjoyable turns without bottoming out.

Satomi Central (pictured), Wakaguri Central, Wakaguri Forest, and the Kamoshika Course were all covered with 3 to 5 cm of light new snow atop moderately firm, easy-to-ski powder grooming. By the way, this weekend on 1/25 (Sun.), several events will be held: an anglerfish cutting demonstration and free tasting event in front of Snow Drop, a free wooden sled experience in the Kids Area, and the “Chanmero Freeride Suribachi Open” on the Expert Course.
