Iwatake REPORT

2026.02.02260 cm / Snow Clouds

On the Mountain Side of the resort, fog began moving in around 8:30 a.m., slightly reducing visibility (pictured). Even so, the unmistakable feel of powder as I reached the summit was enough to get my adrenaline going. The South Slope, topped with about 1 cm of dry new snow, offered moderately a firm groomed powder surface. Many of the guests who stepped off the gondola first thing this morning headed straight down, all the way back to the base.

The East Slope (pictured) also had around 1 cm of dry new snow on top of nicely compacted groomed powder, creating conditions that made turning feel smooth and satisfying. The upper section of Sunny Valley featured moderately firm groomed powder, while the mid to lower sections transitioned to groomed moist snow with a powdery feel.

I met a family from Tokyo, and their son (pictured, far right) who grinned and said, “I love Iwatake!” His father added, “The groomed snow felt great today. I split my time between Tokyo and Hakuba, and I run Hakuba Shokudo in Echoland with some friends—please come by sometime.”

On the Village Side, clouds moved in and out, and dry snow fell on and off. When the light flattened as the sun dipped behind the clouds, the snow surface became harder to read, but every groomed run was well maintained, allowing me to ski with confidence. Around 9:30 a.m., the shuttle bus arriving at the base area was busy, with plenty of people both getting on and off.
