Cortina REPORT

Early today I spoke with a season pass holder from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured), who said, “The Ipponmatsu Course was really nicely groomed first thing this morning! Next, I’m heading over to the groomed Itadaira Course.” My skis slid well on the Hiedayama Rinkan Course (pictured), which had a moderately firm, groomed snow surface with a powdery feel.

Later, I ran into a group of seven snowboarders from Osaka, who told me, “We love the Snownavi site! We came out for the three-day weekend on a tour organized by a snowboard store. It’s been amazing, and the weather has been great!” The snow surface on the groomed, steep slope of the Itadaira Course, which receives plenty of sunshine in the morning, started to loosen up early. However, my edges bit well into the even surface, and I found it easy to ski.

I caught up with another group of three people from Tokyo (pictured). They told me, “We always check your site! We’re enjoying the groomed runs today. We’re also looking forward to the snow that’s in the forecast for this evening!” Although the clouds were moving swiftly from west to east, it was warm and comfortable with almost no wind inside the resort. The Ikenota Slope, which had a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface, began to get crowded around 9:00.

I was minding my own business when a group of three called out to me from the 3rd Quad. They said they had been photographed by Snownavi for a report from last year’s three-day weekend, and that they had been hoping to run into another reporter again this year. They mentioned it was hot, and one of them also joked that he was glad he came in a colorful outfit that stood out. The firmly-groomed surface of the Rabbit Course was composed of wet snow that began to wet and soften as the morning progressed.
