Strong sunshine filtered through a slightly hazy sky this morning. I met the manager from the Forest Snowboard Shop in Matsumoto City (pictured, right) who told me, “Thanks as always! Today I’m here with one of our customers (pictured, left). The snow has that loose, spring corn quality, but the boards are running well, and it’s honestly better than I expected.”

Preparations for the 2026 BANKED SLALOM TGK were underway along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair. Because poor weather is expected tomorrow, the events originally scheduled for 4/4 (Sat.) have been moved to 4/5 (Sun.), and all competitions will now be held over the course of a single day, the day after tomorrow.

The Han-no-ki Slope started out with completely soft, loose granular snow. Grooming was in place from the top down to around the unloading area of the Han-no-ki No. 1 Quad, and that section skied well. Snow coverage thinned toward the bottom, with two short gaps in the snow along the way (pictured), and the snow completely ran out just before passing under the Shirakaba Quad. (※ The Oya-no-hara Slope closed on 4/1.)

The Tsugaike Ropeway early-spring operation is currently running on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4/3 (Fri.) to 4/26 (Sun.) (※ And daily from 4/29 to 5/6.) With excellent backcountry conditions, there were many passengers on the first run of the ropeway today. In addition to the regular schedule, extra trips were added, and departures were running every 15 minutes.
