The 2026 BANKED SLALOM TGK event was held today. Due to poor weather, the snowboard categories and snowskate events originally scheduled for 4/4 (Sat.) were postponed to today, 4/5 (Sun.), so the entire competition took place today. The Han-no-ki Slope was groomed with very soft granular snow from the start.

With the addition of ski, snow bike, and parent-child divisions, this year’s event drew about 330 participants. After the 9:00 a.m. opening ceremony (pictured), course inspection began at 9:20, followed at 10:20 by pre-runs from two ski patrollers and Keiji Okamoto of Japan’s Paralympic snowboard team for Milano-Cortina. The first run of the snowboard women’s junior division then got underway.

The blue skies around 8:30 a.m. were soon swallowed by rising clouds. As fog thickened and thinned, the loose, soft granular surface made it harder to maintain speed. Veteran riders stood out for the way they drove into the banks to keep momentum. (Pictured is Chill Life. Miss Tsuboi, owner of Relaxation Salon Chill Life).

A mother from Aichi Prefecture (pictured, left) told me, “I always follow Snownavi! We’re entering the snowboard parent-child division. It’s the first competition for both me and my daughter (pictured, right), so we’re a bit nervous, but we just want to have fun out there.” I also received many “I always read your reports!” comments from other visitors. Thank you to everyone who greeted me.
