This morning, I spoke with a staff member at the gondola summit station (pictured) who told me, “Yesterday this area stayed socked in with fog all day, but with the banked slalom event it was really busy. Temperatures look like they’ll climb even more today.” A light southerly breeze made for a comfortable morning.

Because the Tsugaike Ropeway is closed Monday through Thursday, I often see people heading into the backcountry by hiking up the closed Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) on clear days. A skier from Aichi Prefecture I spoke with said, “I check Snownavi from time to time. Today I’m hiking up and making a loop around the Tsugaike Nature Park.”

Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), the slope was groomed into loose, granular snow. Snow coverage was complete with no bushes or thin spots, and the skis ran smoothly. On the skier’s right side, where the 2026 BANKED SLALOM TGK was held yesterday, TG PARKS is scheduled to relocate and open on 4/9 (Thu.) & 4/10 (Fri.).

From the midsection of Han-no-ki downward, about two-thirds of the slope width was groomed. As a woman from Otari Village (pictured) told me, “The lower section was sticky.” The snow surface lower down on Han-no-ki was dirty and slow, making it hard to maintain glide. After a break in snow coverage, visible in the back right, it was a roughly 500 m walk to the gondola mid-station. As a result, only a few people were skiing all the way down during my visit.
