This morning, I met three visitors from Toyama who told me, “We always read your reports—we’re Happo season pass holders. Yesterday all the lifts were shut down due to strong winds, so we’re glad things settled down today.” A light northeast wind made for a comfortable morning, and with the “Hakuba Happo Super Vertical Race 2026” taking place, it was a vibrant Sunday with the crowds showing up early.

I also spoke with a couple from Aichi (pictured), who said, “We love Snownavi. We have a Hakuba Valley season pass, but we mostly ski at Happo.” The mogul lane that had formed between the Kurobishi 2 Pair and 3 Pair (pictured) started the morning with a surface like this despite no new snowfall (likely due to wind). As the firm bumps gradually softened, more and more skiers began dropping in.

Earlier in the morning, a patrol member told me, “The surface is nicely set up today and skiing well.” The Panorama Course and the run along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) had moderately firm, groomed granular surfaces. However, as temperatures rose quickly, the surface soon softened and took on a loose, granular feel.

Later on, a father from Matsumoto (pictured, left) told me, “We always read your reports… Oh, and she’s not my girlfriend—she’s my daughter. We always ski together.” On the ungroomed south-facing route at Usagidaira, the surface had developed into rolling terrain and moguls, meaning the entire Usagidaira area was ungroomed this morning.
