Warm, sunny weather continued through 4/8 (Wed.) and 4/9 (Thu.), followed by heavy rain on 4/10 (Fri.). By the morning of 4/11 (Sat.), when strong winds shut down all lifts for the day, a rainbow appeared over the resort (pictured). With warm temperatures, rain, and mild winds accelerating snowmelt, the Skyline Course closed on 4/12 (Sun.).

With that, the skiable terrain starting today, 4/13 (Mon.), was limited to three slopes: Usagidaira, Kurobishi, and Panorama. I met a couple from Aichi (pictured) who called out, “We always read your reports!” and continued, “Today marks our 45th day on snow this season. We’ll keep coming back as long as there’s snow!”

Meanwhile, Pilar is running its “Morning Coffee” special each day until 10:00 a.m. (pictured, left), with blend coffee, American coffee, Darjeeling tea, and Earl Grey tea discounted from ¥700 to ¥500. This morning, I paired it with Pilar’s recommended “Homemade French Toast” (pictured right, ¥900), which had a subtle sweetness and nicely crisp edges.

The south-facing route on Usagidaira (pictured), the run along the Kurobishi Quad, and the Panorama Course all had soft, loose groomed granular surfaces from the start. Bare spots were becoming more noticeable across the slopes, but they didn’t affect skiing. A paid parking lot also opened on 4/13 (Mon.) at the Shirakaba base area (the gondola base station), with a daily fee of ¥1,000.
