Happo-one REPORT

2023.01.12245cm / Sunny

Just like yesterday, it was another beautiful, sunny day. Although there’s been no new snow since the day before yesterday, the groomed slopes made that perfect powder squeak as I walked on them, and I could tell from the sound and the feel of the snow under my feet that the quality of the snow was very good. The wind wasn’t noticeable around Usagidaira Terrace, but I could feel it blowing softly sometimes on the upper portion of the Usagidaira and Kurobishi Slopes (pictured).

Conditions were great this morning on the southern aspect of Usagidaira, the area along the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured), and the central portion of the Skyline Course, with each having moderately firm, groomed powder snow surfaces. My edges gripped and held the snow surface tightly, and it felt great! As is typical for a weekday, it took some time for visitors to trickle over to the Kurobishi Slope, so I was able to stretch out my turns and carve wide tracks onto the vast, open slopes.

On the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track, the first half of the course was groomed with moderately firm powder snow, while the middle to the end of the course and the Sakka Wave at the bottom of the Olympic Course II had hard packed moguls. The areas alongside the Alpen Quad and Kurobishi 3 Pair, as well as the ungroomed portion of the Skyline Course, had a relatively soft undulating base.

I was able to link controlled, comfortable turns on the Sakka Slope (pictured), which was groomed with moderately packed wet snow. The Shirakaba Slope was left ungroomed both yesterday and today, and hard, small-sized bumps had formed in the area just in front of the gondola base station. In other news, this Sunday, 1/15, is a ‘Kids Ski Free Day’ where lift tickets are free for elementary school students and younger.
