Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort is up its final weekend of the season. This morning, while riding the Kurobishi Quad, I met a group of four (pictured) who told me, “Thanks for a great season—see you again next winter!” Another guest added, “There’s clearly less snow than there was yesterday morning.”

The Panorama, Usagidaira (pictured), and Kurobishi areas—all of which remained open through the end—had soft, loose granular groomers that skied fast. The couple from Aichi I met on 4/13 (Mon.) told me, “We were so happy to be featured! The season’s coming to an end, but we’re already looking forward to using Snownavi again next year.”

Down at the base, the “Hakuba Half” was held, centered around the Hakuba Ski Jump Stadium, with 480 participants across two categories: the half marathon and a 5 km fun run. Two runners from Tokyo (pictured) told me, “We always read your reports! We’re going to enjoy the cherry blossoms and the snowy mountains as we run. We’re hoping to finish in about 1 hour and 50 minutes.”

The half marathon course looped through the Happo, Iwatake, and Echoland areas before returning to the stadium. Finishers received a completion certificate, medal, beer voucher, tote bag, mineral water, stickers, and a pamphlet. Events included a taiko performance at 1:00 p.m., guitar and DJ sets at 1:30 p.m., and an after-party starting at 6:00 p.m. at Blizzard near the gondola base station.
