It was a calm Saturday morning, with the sun appearing and disappearing behind passing clouds. With a clear-weather weekend in the forecast, a line formed at the gondola base station before operations, made up not only of regular guests but also mountaineers, backcountry skiers, and snowboarders carrying large packs. I set off on the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), where the groomed granular surface was already loosening.

The Tsuga-no-mori Slope and the Gotemba Course (pictured) also started out with soft, granular groomers. On all three runs, the groomed sections had full snow coverage with no exposed bushes or thin spots. At TG PARKS, both the main park along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair and the hike-up park in front of the Tsuga-no-mori Rest House were cleanly shaped and well maintained.

I met a guide from Thailand who told me, “We came with a group of about 30 people. Since it doesn’t snow in Thailand, everyone is really excited.” A brother and sister (pictured) playing on sleds rented at SNOW Activity WOW! smiled and said in newly learned Japanese, “Tanoshii! Tanoshii!”

Short mogul lines had formed in the upper and lower sections of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope, where the snow had softened. A staff member from the Tsugaike Ropeway told me, “With the special benefit allowing season pass holders to ride for the ropeway for free, more people have been using the ropeway this year.” Two visitors from Toyama Prefecture added, “We always follow Snownavi. We’re taking advantage of the benefit to head up to the Nature Park today.”
