Goryu47 REPORT

2023.02.20280cm / Snowy

The low-pressure system that brought heavy rain to the Hakuba area yesterday has moved away to the east, ushering in the return of a typical winter pressure pattern and bringing snow overnight. Snow was still falling this morning, lightly around the base area, but quite heavily on the upper portion of the ski resort. Brisk northerly winds made it feel considerably colder than the actual temperature.
[Route 8]

As I skied down from the top part of Route 8 (first photo), where around 5 cm of fresh snow sat atop the moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface, I was delighted to find about 15 to 20 cm of fresh snow topping off a well-packed, undulating base as I entered Route 2 (pictured). Although it was a bit challenging to see the details of the snow surface due to the thick fog, I was able to enjoy the fluffy powder!
[Route 2]

The firm, groomed surfaces of Route 5, Route 6 (pictured), and the lower part of Route 8 were composed of a mix of granular snow and fresh snow and topped with between 3 and 5 cm of fresh snow that felt fantastic when making turns. In other news, 47PARKS is closed for a rebuild today and tomorrow.
[Route 6]

I was surprised to see rime ice on the trees on the top half of the mountain since yesterday was so warm. An individual I rode the lift with told me, “I wasn’t sure how the conditions would turn out yesterday, but I’m glad the cold weather came back, and the snow is better than I expected.” Onn the lower part of Route 1 there was about 5 cm of fresh snow covering the tightly groomed, granular snow surface which began to grow bumpy for the tracks of skiers and snowboarders.
