First Snowfall of the Season on Mt. Teine

On October 20 (Mon.), the Sapporo District Meteorological Observatory announced the first snowfall on Mt. Teine (1,023 m), the Hakodate Observatory reported the first snow on Mt. Yokotsu (1,167 m), and the Muroran Observatory confirmed the same for Mt. Washibetsu (911 m). Mt. Teine’s first snow arrived two days later than the average date (10/18), matching last year’s timing (10/20). Mt. Yokotsu’s first snowfall came nine days earlier than average (10/29) and 18 days earlier than last year (11/7), while Mt. Washibetsu’s was 11 days earlier than average (10/31) and identical to last year (10/20).

*Snow has also been reported at ski resorts such as Mt. Kurodake and Mt. Asahidake in the Daisetsuzan Range, as well as Nakayama Pass.
