First Snow on Honshu

On 10/21 (Tue.), the Aomori District Meteorological Observatory announced the first snow on Mt. Hakkoda (1,584 m), and the Morioka District Meteorological Observatory confirmed the same for Mt. Iwate (2,038 m)—marking Honshu’s first snow of the 2025–26 season. Mt. Hakkoda’s snowfall was two days later than average (10/19) and one day later than last year (10/20), while Mt. Iwate’s was eight days later than average (10/13) and one day later than last year (10/20).

*On 10/20 (Mon.), the first accumulation of snow this season was also observed on both Mt. Hakkoda and Mt. Iwaki.
*Mt. Hakkoda is home to the Hakkoda International Ski Resort, Mt. Iwaki hosts Aomori Spring Ski Resort, and Iwate Kogen Snow Park, Hachimantai Resort (Shimokura & Panorama), Amihari Onsen Ski Resort, and Shizukuishi Ski Resort are all located around Mt. Iwate.
