A pair of skiers from Aichi and Tokyo greeted with the familiar phrase, “We always check your reports!” The woman from Aichi (pictured, right) went on, “We’re season pass buddies who met here at the ski resort. The weather’s a bit odd today, but the slope conditions are nice and easy to ski. I’m heading to Tateyama tomorrow.” The man from Tokyo (pictured, left) added, “I’ll be skiing here at Happo until the very last day of the season!”

On the Panorama Course, only the area visible in the background of the photo has any exposed ground. I ran into a couple from Aichi (pictured) who said, “We always read your reports! Conditions were good again today on Panorin (Panorama Forest Course). We’re heading back home today, but we’ll be back to ski again on 5/3 (Sat.). Oh… did we just out ourselves as regulars?”

Until 3/20 (Thu.), Hakuba Happo-One had been relatively unaffected by wind this season, but since then, we’ve seen frequent disruptions from spring storms. This morning, sleet was falling along with strong winds, and only the Panorama Course was open for skiing. However, even Panorama was closed down at 9:00 a.m., and from that point on, the reopening of all lifts—including the gondola—remained undertermined.

Blue skies were visible to the south (pictured), and there were even a few sunny moments up until around 8:30 a.m. “It was snowing on the upper part of the Usagidaira Slope and over on the Kurobishi Slope, with each having a thin layer of fresh snow,” reported a ski patroller. The forecast calls for improving weather heading into tomorrow.
