Happo has already received its second snowfall of the season! This time the snow wasn’t limited to only the upper slopes—it also blanketed the Riesen Slalom, Panorama, Skyline, Kitaone, and Central courses in white. Stepping onto the fresh, untouched snow covering the Oakley Terrace (pictured), I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement at the soft, powdery snow underfoot.

As of 8 a.m., the rain at the base was falling as sleet around 1,200m, and at Usagidaira, a northwesterly wind was carrying slightly wet snow. “The snow really piled up overnight. Take care up there!” called out a staff member from the Alpen Quad lift. The higher I went toward the top of the resort, the stronger the wind grew, and the falling snowfall became thicker and heavier.

About 15 to 17cm of snow had accumulated on the lower section of the Riesen Grat Course (pictured). With the Grat Quad lift starting later than usual, I hiked up to the Happo-ike Sanso. Digging into the snow revealed a thin layer of frost beneath, showing that not only along the Happo-one Nature Trail but even on the slopes themselves, the ground temperature is steadily lowering.

There was between 20 and 25cm accumulated in the snowdrifts at the top of the Kurobishi Slope. Today marks the end of the Happo Alpen Line’s summer operation period, and full-scale preparations begin for the 2025–26 winter season tomorrow!
