Goryu47 REPORT

Stepping off the Goryu Telecabin and onto the snow, I quickly heard the snow squeaking under my feet — a sign of excellent powder conditions. With fairly strong northwesterly winds blowing across Alps Daira, a staff member at ALPS360 told me, “Yesterday, the strong winds forced the Telecabin to suspend operations around 10 a.m. We’ve had quite a few windy days lately, so I’m hoping it doesn’t pick up any more today.”

The Panorama Course was groomed into moderately firm, powder-packed snow, and was exceptionally easy to ski. On the Grand Prix Course (pictured), which also featured well-set powder grooming, windblown snow had settled unevenly across the surface in patches up to 2 cm. That snow was dry and light, so it wasn’t an issue at all, and I was able to engage my edges confidently and carry speed down the run.

Looking down over the base area, which is now completely white, I skied down the Dynamic Course and Woody Course, and found that both had been groomed with firm powder bases. On the Toomi Slope, the surface was moderately firm with a light layer of soft machine-made snow on top. Meanwhile, the ungroomed areas of the Technical Course and along the Alps 3rd Pair line had 20 to 25 cm of wind-packed new snow.

A Mogul Course that can also be used during night skiing is now open on the south side of the Powder Snow Course. Both the Powder Snow and Soft Cream courses were groomed with firm powder surfaces. The Soft Cream Course (pictured) was lively even on a weekday, with plenty of beginners and first-timers taking lessons.
