Goryu47 REPORT

The strongest and longest-lasting cold wave of the season is upon us! Around 7:00 a.m., dry snow began swirling through the air, carried by a strong northerly wind. The Powder Snow Course (pictured) had a light dusting of new snow on top of a hard and icy base, so after taking one cautious run and making sure not to lose an edge, I headed for the Goryu Telecabin.

Up at Alps Daira, patches of blue sky appeared overhead, and the smooth, freshly groomed surface of the Technical Course (pictured, left) combined with the soft, powdery feel underfoot instantly lifted my spirits. I ran into a snowboarder from Shizuoka Prefecture who told me, “I always read your reports during my lunch break. It was a quiet start today, so I was able to make big, sweeping turns on the Grand Prix Course — it felt great!”

Dropping into the ungroomed areas, I found that about 10 cm of light new snow had piled up, and my skis sent soft plumes of snow drifting into the air as I went. I had a conversation with two visitors from Ishikawa Prefecture (one of them pictured), who commented, “What made the ungroomed runs fun was how the hard and soft patches alternated.” On the Grand Prix Course, the groomed, packed-powder surface was topped with uneven patches of dry new snow ranging up to 5 cm, and it was fun slicing straight through the fresh snow.

Starting this season, Goryu’s night skiing now includes not only the Toomi Slope (pictured, left) but also the skier’s-left side of the 6th Pair area (pictured, right). A key point is that grooming is carried out every evening before night skiing kicks off at 6:00 p.m. GORYU PARK is also open! (※Discount coupons for Goryu night skiing are available).
