Goryu47 REPORT

2026.02.19305 cm / Cloudy

Snow fell overnight last night, and the skies were clear by morning — one of the best-case scenarios. I met a local Hakuba resident who told me, “I’m glad the strong winds from last night settled down. I came out hoping to ride some powder for the first time in a while.” With the start of the Goryu Telecabin delayed, I headed first to the ungroomed DEFENDER course (pictured), where 5 to 15 cm of light new snow had settled over a firm, uneven surface.

This latest round of substantial snowfall couldn’t have come at a better time, just ahead of the three-day weekend. Conditions on the lower mountain improved noticeably, and the north-facing Soft Cream Course (pictured) and Maryland Course had transformed into moderately firm, powder-packed groomed runs. The Sunny Way Course, DISCOVERY, and the Powder Snow Course were groomed with well-set moist snow that had a powder-like feel.

Up at Alps Daira, light snow drifted through the air, carried by a gentle north wind. The ungroomed Technical Course (pictured) held around 30 cm of light new snow. Although the surface had been lightly wind-affected, that helped prevent excessive sinking, and I rarely bottomed out on the firmer base below. The result was a satisfying sense of float combined with a soft, cushioned feel.

The Grand Prix and Panorama Courses were dusted unevenly with 0 to 2 cm of light new snow, and featured moderately firm, groomed powder snow. The Dynamic and Woody Courses were groomed into well-set powder bases. Snowmaking machines had been running until early morning on the Toomi Slope (pictured), and the moderately firm powder surface was topped with 0 to 3 cm of soft machine-made snow. Every groomed run skied beautifully today.
