This morning the clouds that had lingered in the sky before opening gradually cleared, giving way to sunny skies with a light southerly breeze. The ungroomed Sky View Slope (pictured) was covered in softened granular snow, with everything from mellow rollers to fully formed moguls. As temperatures climbed rapidly, I spotted plenty of people skiing without jackets.

The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) and Satomi Central Slope were both groomed widely, and offered a loose, soft corn snow surface. The soft and relatively flat surface combined with the snow conditions allowed for even pressure through each turn. The rhythmic tracks etched across the slope reflected how enjoyable it was.

The Rabbit Course (pictured) and Highway Course were both groomed with that same loose granular texture, and the softened layer on top thickened within an hour and turned noticeably slushy. I met a student from Kyoto Institute of Technology who said, “I always read Snownavi. I’m secretly training for tomorrow’s Rookie competition of the technical ski category at the Student Ski Competition at Iwatake. I just don’t want to finish last, so I’m giving it my all!”

I also had a conversation with a staff member (pictured) who told me, “I came to check the mogul course, but it’s already pretty soft.” With moderately sized bumps that had loosened up nicely, the mogul course was actually in great shape for practice. By the way, the JIM BEAM Kitchen Car will host a “GARDEN DJ Event” tomorrow, 2/27 (Fri.), starting at 12 p.m.
