“COWDAY SLOPE 2026” was held at TG PARKS from 2/27 (Fri.) to 3/1 (Sun.), and brought together world-class riders such as Milano–Cortina Olympic gold medalist Kira Kimura, his younger brother Yuto Kimura, and Yura Murase—the younger sister of Olympic Big Air gold medalist Kokomo Murase. Of the men’s and women’s qualifying rounds scheduled for 2/28 (Sat.), the women’s qualifier was postponed to today due to bad weather.

A TG PARKS staff member involved in course preparation told me, “Building the course and maintaining it afterward was a huge job, but we worked hard to make sure the riders could hit everything comfortably. We paid special attention to Section 6.” During the women’s public practice session at 8:50 a.m., I heard riders comment how it was in great shape.

Section 1 featured a 10 m double-down rail and an 8 m down rail. Section 2 had a cannon rail and a flat rail. Section 3 was a 16 m kicker, Section 4 a 14 m kicker, Section 5 a knoll, and Section 6 an Oakley rail followed by an up-to-down rail. Massive airs launched off the oversized kickers drew loud cheers from spectators and from riders watching from their seats on the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad.

Yura Murase (pictured, second and third photos), who advanced to the women’s final in fifth place, delivered an outstanding run to take the win. In the men’s final, gold-medal favorite Kira Kimura withdrew due to illness, and his younger brother Yuto Kimura claimed victory. The high level of riding kept my excitement soaring throughout the event. By the way, rime ice made a rare appearance on the trees again this morning on the upper slopes of Tsugaike.
