Spring break appears to be well underway. Even though it was a weekday, the mountain saw solid visitor numbers, especially from student groups. Before the resort opening, many backcountry riders with large packs had gathered at the Goryu Telecabin base. The morning brought calm, comfortable weather and sunshine again, but snow is finally back in the forecast for tomorrow.

The north-facing Panorama Course (pictured) and the upper section of Route 8 were freshly groomed and held firm, granular snow with good edge grip. The east-facing Grand Prix Course was also freshly groomed, but it had already started to soften slightly in the sun. All three runs allowed for strong edge engagement and clean, confident turns.

Crews relocated the “Goryu Bumps” (pictured) course from the previous location on the Powder Snow Course and DISCOVERY to the lower section of the Grand Prix Course along the Alps 3rd Pair line. The moguls were just the right size and had the right amount of softness, inviting repeat laps. Patrol checks ran longer than usual this morning, which delayed the opening of the Dynamic, Expert, and Woody Courses.
[Grand Prix Course]
On the Grand Prix Course (pictured), instructors from the Hakuba Goryu Ski School and other advanced riders carved sharp, powerful turns down the slope that really stood out. The Toomi Slope, Powder Snow Course, and Soft Cream Course were all freshly groomed and had softened into manageable spring granular conditions. Snowmelt has progressed around the mountain, and DEFENDER and DISCOVERY are now closed. (The Snow Diving Course is barely hanging on.)
