Happo-one REPORT

2026.03.09240 cm / Cloudy

Snowmelt on the slopes has accelerated, and yesterday the Shirakaba, Central, Olympic II, Sakka Wave, Sakka, and Kokusai runs all closed. From today onward, the only route open to ski down to the base is the Riesen Slalom Course → Nakiyama Public Course. Up top, however, snow coverage remains plentiful and conditions are still solid.

So how are the mid-mountain runs holding up? Today, both the Skyline Course and the Panorama Course still had plenty of snow, with no brush showing, and the central section of the Skyline Course (pictured) had well-set groomed granular snow. Even though patches of blue sky occasionally appeared overhead, the slopes stayed mostly shaded, which helped keep the surfaces firm and in good shape.

On Usagidaira’s South Side Route and in the area along the Kurobishi Quad, yesterday’s fresh snowfall had been mixed into the surface and groomed into fine-grained granular snow. The ungroomed areas along the Skyline ridgeline, the Kurobishi 3 Pair line, and the Alpen Quad line had firm medium-to-large moguls. I decided it would be better to wait for those to soften a bit before dropping in.

I met a skier from Kanagawa (pictured) who told me, “I always read Snownavi! Yesterday the slopes were rock hard, but today they’re much easier to ski. A close friend of mine is in the hospital, so I’m sending him good energy from Hakuba.” On the Panorama Course, the north side where the snowmaking machines are lined up (pictured) had well-set groomed wet snow, while the south side had well-set groomed granular snow.
